Description
Up for bids is this rare, authentic Gold Guilded Silver Buckle recovered off of one of the ill-fated ships of the "1715 Plate Fleet" which sank in a hurricane on July 24, 1715 off the East Coast of Florida. The buckle has been professionally conserved and is in stable condition. The ornately crafted buckle is silver and guilded ( plated ) with gold. The buckle is more than likely off of one of the shoes of an unfortunate high ranking ship's officer or wealthy passenger that was on board one of the ships since only someone of significant financial status would have been able to afford such a luxury item at that time. The buckle is from the "Corrigan's Wreck Site" as mentioned on the certificate that accompanies it. The certificate is a large 8x10 and has a color photograph of the buckle along with it's dimensions: 1 1/2" by 1", weight: 12.4 grams, reign: Philip V, Artifact No. 99A-010, description: Guilded Silver. The certificate of authenticity is hand-signed by world known treasure diver and marine archeologist James Sinclair who has been with Mel Fisher and the Atocha recoveries for many years. The buckle comes displayed and protected in a glass topped Riker padded case with description card. This is not a reproduction, but an authentic museum quality Gold Guilded Silver Buckle from the famous 1715 plate fleet. Artifacts from the 1715 fleet are becoming more and more scarce now and any type of items that contain gold from the fleet are almost impossible to find, and when they do come up for auction, command high auction prices. This is a great opportunity to add to or start any quality shipwreck artifact collection. I have been collecting and studying shipwreck artifacts for over 30 years and this buckle has always been one of the central show pieces in my collection. I have set a low starting price to protect my investment. Good Luck!
