Item # 55 Name of the Item Ancient Egyptian Alabaster Vase – Inscribed, Incised & Painted - New Kingdom Provenance Thebes, Egypt Materials Alabaster and encaustic ink Description During the Egyptian New Kingdom the industry of alabaster vessels enjoyed a Renaissance of the glorious days of the Old Kingdom, when the production of items in alabaster was really outstanding. This rare item is inscribed with a funerary formula in favor of an Overseer of the Treasure called Amenhotep (Imenhetep), certainly during the XVIII or XIX Dynasty. Below the inscribed band, two symmetrical garlands with lotus and papyrus inside Highlights Nice composition of floral and geometric patterns incised and painted in encaustic technique. Remains of the original painting preserved in the incised work. Condition As it is and shown in picture. We would say: good and stable condition but we can see an old repair in one small part (clear in picture 5). Measures H: 3 ½ inches ( 8,7 cm) C: 10 inches ( 25 cm) Inscription Upon request, by the buyer Date (or estimated) Possibly XVIII or XIX Dynasty ( c.1400-1200 bC) Origin of the item Private Collection in RJ. Acquired in Paris after WWII.
