Description
~ ESTATE SALE ~ NO RESERVE ~ FROM THE ESTATE OF A PROFESSIONAL VIOLINIST...VERY FINEANTIQUEGERMAN VIOLIN~ GYPSY SOUND ~ BOLD, STRONG TONEExtraordinary Inlay WorkThis is a fine handmade antique German Violin ~ Full Size, 4/4 Violin. It is a work of art; a finely made instrument with a gorgeous sound. This fine violin belongs in the hands of a professional violinist or in a collection of rare instruments. This violin clearly has the strong characterisitcs of fine German violinmaking. The full arching fall away to a pocketing affect just before the finely laid purfling, the superblycarved scroll, and the very special decorative scalloped edging and the well-executed mother of pearl inlays. Violin has a deep, buttery patina, golden reds and ochres. It is just gorgeous and glows like the color of honey on a warmsummer day.  The condition is astounding for a violin that is easily 100 years old.  Of course, it is an antique instrument and shows some wear from play, butits exactly the kind of wear that you'd look for in an fine, handmade German instrument of this quality. Germany produced some of the finest, nicestsounding violins of the 19th century. This is a rare and special, hand-made violin from the estate violin collection of a professional orchestra violinist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I'd estimate is from the 1870-1900.It has a clear, bold, bold sound; resonant and dark in the lower bass noteswith rich, penetrating strength, yet beautiful, bright and singing in the trebles. It is from a fine collection of violins and should be in the hands of someonelooking for a very special violin. As many of you know, I've sold many violinson Ebay, fine instruments from this estate. This is one of the most beautiful. Older German violins are widely sought after and collected for their superb qualityand rich, mature sound. The scroll work is excellent and mirrors the lovely lines of the finely carved body;  the sound holes have a lovely shape and fluting, thebody is nicely carved and deeply arched producing a strong, vibrant sound. All in all, a lovely, well-proportioned violin that has the hallmarks of a high-grade Mittenwald instrument where the German maker's worked diligently to accurately reproduce the sound and craftmanship of the Italian Stradivarius violins. Our local shop believes this violin tohave been made in the Mittenwald area of Germany.LISTEN to this VIOLIN...Solo Sound Sample ~ Double Click on Arrow TO HEAR THIS SOLO VIOLIN SOUND SAMPLE CLICK ON THE ARROW in THE TOOLBARThis is a short VIDEO that I shot (using my little point and shoot camera, no expensive microphones, no computer or sound enhancements at all). The violinist is a 14 year old and a violin student (she welcomes your feedback on her performance). The piece is an excerpt of Brahm's Hungarian Dance No. 5. Sight reading. This fine old violin is from the Collection of a ProfessionalOrchestra Violinist from Philadelphia This fine violin was part of the collection of a lifelong orchestra violinist from Philadelphia...a professional violinist who spent a lifetime traveling, performing and collecting fine instruments that I am selling on Ebay. Please to listen to this violin and view the pictures; and if you have any questions, please write me...that's what I'm here for.Full size, 4/4 Violin. Measures 23-1/2 inches in overall length. The body measures 14-1/2" long; lower bout is 8-1/8"; upper is 6-5/8".Condition: Full Size, 4/4 violin in excellent vintage condition. There are no postcracks or cracks of any kind; the original varnish is a hand-rubbed finish witha warm patina that only father time imparts on a fine violin. There is the usual wear that you'd expect on a violin that was used and lovingly collected by a professional violinist, some dings and scratches and wear from use. There are two pegs that appear original and two that are not. All are older pegs and areworking. There is one small pearl piece on back that is gone, but hardly noticeable and certainly has no affect on the sound or beauty of the insrument as you see. Comes with case which will serve to protect the violin in shipping. If you're looking for something very special, with the vintage glow of a fine instrument and a big, warm tone that growls like a good gypsy violin...this is it.This fine violin will be sold without reserve. I have started the auction with a low starting bid to allow everyone to participate. This is a fantastic opportunity to have a vintage, hand-made Violin from a major east coast collection of violins. It is an estate item; a beautiful instrument, but as a Estate item, it is sold in its current condition as is. I believe that |his violin is just beautiful; an fine, old German violin.
