ANCIENT Egyptian Faience SHU Amulet Late Period 500BC Large  Fine QualityShu Amulet.The aqua blue glazed faience amulet represents Shu, the son of the Sun, holding up Nut--the Sky--from the embrace of Geb--the Earth. Shu is depicted in the form of male figure in a short kilt kneeling on his right knee on an integral plinth base. Arms are raised in attitude of the Ka supporting the sky. The God wears the divine false beard and lappet wig with Solar disc headdress. At the back is a dorsal pillar with pierced hole for suspension. Beautiful large piece with excellent detail. Shu amulets were placed on the lower torso of mummies as a powerful amuletAqua blue glazed faience. Height:  3 cm.  Just under 1-1/4 in Condition: Minor loss to left knee; else excellent.  No repairs.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~This figure is a wonderful piece of ancient art/culture.
