As most know Hong Kong is a special economic zone so what's there is 100% legal unless smuggled out. This is a top quality Chinese Bronze Age battle axe called a Ge and it is easy to understand its use...insert a stout shaft and off to fight. However, unlike Europe where farm implements were often used as weapons this weapon served no function but war and protectioin. Being bronze these are hard to find intact and some suffer from bronze disease, which makes them basically fall apart when handled. I once bought a superb Ge from a top dealer that came in a custom Chinese box. However, when removing it from its box it fell apart into 2-3 pieces . Naturally the dealer took it back. In contrast this is solid but still be careful as its bronze not iron or steel & about 1700 years of age. I just took a close look at it & it is virtually perfect except for a few tiny chips & a slight bend on the top ridge heading towards the shaft hole. It even has what seems to be some of the original soil. A close inspection of one chip allowed me to see the original bronze, which is a copper color. This shows that it is 100% genuine as bronze ages in a fairly predictable way in the absense of certain minerals and according to the climate. In a wet climate like Europe & China the gold-like bronze would turn brownish looking like copper and then it often starts to get black & then the greenish patina forms last. Often there are several colors on one weapon according to minerals or buried remains. The color on this is first rate by the way and "as dug." This weapon is 100% guaranteed for life.
