Description
MAGNIFICENT PRE-COLUMBIAN WEST MEXICO TERRACOTTA FLAT FEMALE FIGURE. From Colima Culture, probably, ca. 300 BC - AD 300. Well-known style found in the border area between the states of Colima and Jalisco. Depicting a solid flat female figure sitting with outstretched legs, wrapped in a skirt decorated with incised undulating line, touching her left breast with both fingered hands. She is wearing two applied headbands adorned with punctuate designs and hair braid, possibly, falling over the back, double earspools, two strands tubular beads necklace, and upper armbands. The hand modeled sculpture has open mouth as if in speech, prominent nose and ridged eyes, with visible breasts. Very good condition, waist glued, with earth and manganese deposits, marks of roots, traces of orange pigment remains. Size: tall 6 3/4", wide 4 3/8" and deep 4 3/4". It is an authentic piece.
