Description
The painting has a berlinger gramophone for th Edison cylinder machine. Francis Baraud painted as requested by Gary Owen, manager of the gramophone company ant the painting was delivered 17th October 1899. On a visit to London in 1900 Emile Berlinger (inventor of the flat disc record) contacted Barraud and commissioned him to paint a copy of the first painting . Barraud then sought a trademark for it and was granted a patent on July 10,1900. In the US the nipper logo appeared on Johnson's Victor talking machine sales novelties, onletter headings, on record catalogs and on the paper labels of the discs. Francis Barraud then painted 24 copies of this most famous work and were distributed around the world. Nipper was Francis Barrauds' famous dog. I acquired this painting in an estate auction in 1982 outside of Nashville Tennessee. I was assurred by the auction house and the seller that this is one of the origional 24 paintings.. I haThe painting is in its' origional frame and has not been touched for any type of repair. There are however small cracks in the oil, none of which take away from its' beauty. If you love Fox Terriers or love music, have a music room, this painting is perfect. I can be reached at 407-319-1739 for any additional inquiries. Several art dealers in Orlando have wanted to purchase this painting but I would prefer someone who has the passion I have had to keep it. I am selling this painting due to some financial hardships, and am quite dismayed at selling such a beautiful painting. One might search the internet for additional history. This is a very fine painting to own. The photos do not do it justice. If interested I can email additional photos at your request. The last appraisal I had on the painting was $20,000.00. I am willing to negotiate the price. My email is janbenge@msn.com
