Antique English Tantalus Start Price USD 875.00 Current Price USD 875.00 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Wednesday, November 05, 2008 End Time Friday, December 05, 2008 Location Kalispell, MT See more about 'Antique English Tantalus' Description This is a beautiful old English tantalus!  Circa 1860.  The tantalus was used to keep the servants out of the liquor.  When the lid is closed and locked the bottles can't be removed.  Also, there is a secret compartment.  If you press an area on the wood under the lid, the drawer will open.  I suppose to hide cigars.  The wood appears to be oak and has brass around the edges, on the lids and brass handles on the sides.  These are the original crystal bottles.  No chips.  However, the stopper is stuck in one of the bottles.  We tried everything to get it loose, but didn't want to take the chance of breaking it. There is one piece of wood veneer missing on the bottom back edge.  The hand carvings on the top and front are of leaves and grapes.  It does have the original key, but it is very temperamental.  Please email for anymore information.
