Ancient Greek Xenon Ware Pottery 4th Century BC Greek ~ Magna GraeciaMiddle 4th Century BC Xenon Ware Trefoil OinochoeThis elegant vessel features a footed base, ovate body with a square shoulder, tall neck with a trefoil flared rim and a tall elegant handle.  Characteristic of Xenon Ware this Oinochoe features hand painted red decoration over the black glaze.   The hand painting consists of a radiating tongue pattern on shoulder, large laurel leaf and berry and a square at the back with an eight-point star.  The bottom of the foot is the reserved color of the terracotta with a subtle red wash.~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Condition: clean break base of neck repaired; else excellent with lovely glaze and decoration.Height: 6-3/8 in.
