Depicting a rider with 4 horses. This has a superb weight and has the solidity that you would expect from a high fired piece of ceramic.  Right colour black oxide figure with a lovely repeating leaf motif. Good orange terracotta background which seems most elusive in many copies and the lovely flicks of scratching that give the figurative quality characteristic of Athenian black figureware. This has a delightful shape and just the application of the handle looks so effortless but is such a skill to get right. This is a piece of art in its own right, fantastically thrown and wonderfully painted. It hasn't been aged (sponged, rubbed, hit with a hammer etc.) This is a unique ceramic piece made in Athens, borrowing on all the tradition of classical helenistic art.
